Reccomend a PH for a bull elephant hunt?

Looking into hunting elephant, and perhaps have a crack at a decent bull elephant.

Thinking Mozambique or Namibia for starters, but open to suggestions.

I'd like it to be as little motorized as possible. Clean simple tent camp, a tracking hunt, and a decent possibility to find something big if I really put in the effort and have more than a little bit of luck.

Will bring a double, and find forested hill country most interesting. Hunting in swamps would probably be a Nice adventure, but unsure if I can stop thinking of all that shit in the water waiting to bite me as I am wading through..

Re: Reccomend a PH for a bull elephant hunt?

bonde, I have only hunted tuskless cow elephant in Zimbabwe wit Martin
Peters. Generally drove to likely areas then drove around till find tracks, then walk. Open to thick vegetation, none where I was- Zambezi Valley- was what you would call forested. He does have several camps.

I am looking at Karl Stumpfe of Ndumo Safaris in Namibia for similar. Check their web sites to see about their camps and the country they hunt.

My understanding is that Mozambique is almost done. I would think Zimbabwe is probably the best option at the moment for bigger bulls.

If you want to walk and track Guav Johnson is the PH for you. He hates hunting form the car and walks for ever. We hunted in Cameroon in January and we took a eat Savanah Buffalo and a 52+ Lord Derby.

He probably hunts DG more days a year then anyone at the moment. Cameroon, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

If you want to connect I'll gladly provide and intro.

Thanks for the reccomendations. Will make contact and see what turns up.

Reason for the question is that I'd prefer ro deal directly with the PH/concessionowner, as there are far too many people today wanting to live of others, and I reckon the dollars belong in the pocket of those who actually does the job.

I totally agree. Just for the record I am not a booking agent nor do I get anything out of this financially.

PM me and I'll provide his WhattsApp #.

Re: Reccomend a PH for a bull elephant hunt?

Not sure if/what he is up to now days but Nixon out of Zimbabwe has taken numerous bulls over the years in excess of 70lbs..with a couple over 80..

Hunted with him in 2004 and 2005 for buffalo--great guy and great crew..I do know once he started being successful his prices increased significantly...however, now that US citizens can no longer import ivory from Zim, his prices may have gone back to more realistic prices..??

I know another PH, Mark, works for Chifuti Safari's, also a very good PH..again, not cheap..
but you pay for quality I feel..

Walking for a bull elephant hunt is pretty normal and does involve a lot of walking in most cases.

For a big bull I'd look at Namibia now with western Zim around Wankie National park as second option.

That is what I did. Bit of advice if I may. Make sure you let the PH know what sort of size you expect the Elephant to be. First one I was offered was not 6 foot at the shoulder.

Re: Reccomend a PH for a bull elephant hunt?

I chose to go with PH Richard Tabor, former of Charlton McCallum Safaris, now hunting in his own right, so I reckon Iīm in the very best hands. He has been given nothing but very good commends.

I have been very clear from the start, that I wanted a fair, traditional hunt with no short cuts and good (!) animals.
I also wanted a "wilderness" hunt, and not in among settlements, so I grabbed the opportunity to go in Chewore when that was given.

On my behalf Iīll keep up and make sure I am fit for the hunt, practice for my shooting and reloading to be second nature, and keep the spirit up even though it will not be a walk in the park at that time of the year. Hunting oct into nov.

My two only real concerns are the heat, and those frickinīsnakes... Footwear will be x2 and well broken in. I donīt want to spend that kind of money to sit tight in camp with broken feet or sore thighs..
