A quick report on my trip to Cameroon Dec 25, 2016 - Jan 11th, 2017.
Getting to Cameroon sucks. NYC - Paris - Douala - Garoua is more hours then could ever possibly be fun.
Bags arrrived 2 days after I did. Luckily I read an article by Craig Boddington years ago that said to bring all you need and a change of cloths in your carry on, glad I did.
Used the camp Win 70 375 H&H for the Buffalo and LDE. Worked fine but sucks not using my Sako 9.3x62.
Hunted with Gauv and Mayo Oldiri in nduelle camp. Old camp but comfortable. Guav is excellent.
Saw eland every day and buff most days. Tones of planes game.
Never saw a great water buck or good western bush duiker but lots of everything else.
Corruption is wild, takes forever to get rifles into and out of country. Bribes are substantial.
Poaching pressure is significant. We saw camps every day and burned them. Found remains of giant topi, warthog, reedbuck, bushbuck and heartebeast. Heard shot guns three times, rifles twice and AK burst twice (The PH said first time he has heard AKs in the north).
Buffalo is quite good, the eland is nice 52 3/4 inches, heartebeast is massive ( I was told it will go top 10 all time), the picture does not do him justice.
Great trip but I'll never bring a gun into Cameroon again and I'll fly with only carry on.

Goliath Tiger Fish, they grow much bigger but we caught a few this size and hey where a lot of fun.

Congratulations. Excellent hunt. Pity about the corruption of black Africa. It would be interesting to hear what sort of "baksheesh" these clowns expect and for what? As an education and market guide.
Definitely some excellent trophies on your wall in the future.
The Lord Derby eland looks huge. The forest buffalo is also real cool. Even the little guys. Add out in the bag nicely.
BTW at first I thought you were Ripp too, as we are expecting his report from the same period. Did you guys hunt together or was the timing a coincidence?

Rip went right after me, different outfitter. I'm very curious to hear his experience.
You have to bribe the police, customs inspector, army and the baggage handlers at each airport. Plus 2 or 3 road blocks both police and army. My estimate is around $800 total.
The hunting outfitter also employs a fixer and he handed out a few small bribes that I did not have to reimburse.

I am just working my way home from Hawaii..sitting in Seattle this morning waiting for my afternoon connecting flight..a bit out of it-- 4 hours of sleep..
Should have my story up this coming week..YES..lots of corruption..but I did NOT give anything in the form of money..but my friend lost $100 from one of the security guys in the airport..they told me I had an item in my carryon that was illegal and I needed a friend (bribe) in order to take it through..I grabbed my bag and told him I have enough friends and walked away. I fully expected them to stop me but I think my attitude took him completely off guard as he let me walk away..they did steal two little dolls I had bought for my kids out of my bag...they are a bunch of thieving SOB's no doubt...

Corruption and Black Africa, Goes without saying ... Am I a racist?
When asked for beer money at Jo'burg airport when picking up rifles, I have sometimes shook their hand and thanked them instead. Other times chickened out and handed over a dollar but no more. Because I don't my rifles going missing when I pass through next time.
In Zimbabwe the first time, a bribe could have saved a day's wasted time. I didn't know how to ask whether they wanted a bribe that time. In the end got around the issue and no bribe paid. But a lot of ffffing around.
Paying a bribe passing across land borders is often required. I have passed through these borders Kenya/Tanz, Tanz/Malawi, Malawy/Zambia, Zambia/Zimbabwe border many times, Zim/Bots a number of times. And none of these are bad ones.
Like Central and Western Africa. One thing with bribes, if they think they will get one from you and a large one, they will try for it. Bribes spread and grow in size with experience of travellors and their nationality over time. Not paying them though you risk getting a serious fucking around ...

You got some really nice animals...Eland is awesome as are many of the others...I was not as lucky, but got one just the same..actually just happy to get one as it turned out..my guide sucked..however the outfitter and camp was really good..probably one of the best PH's I have ever hunted with..
Can hardly wait to see what it will be like going back for Bongo and all the bs it requires to get in and out of that shit-hole...

Kidding and agree---my buddy and I are actually looking at going to NZ in the next 12 months or less...
As to Cameroon...there is one more species I really want to get there so I have to go back at least once...

I really like the extra photos from safaris. Where we get to see what the camp looks like, the countryside, what the hunting areas look like, or scenic shots, and living wild game and other photos of interest.
A safari report with just the dead animals posed with the hunter, is not the whole photographic story.
Thanks for posting, these good photos of local game. I was going to say I like the forest buffalo photo, but then couldn't decide, I like all three photos.

Looks like a fabulous trip (with the exception of the corrupt activities of the officials) and the photos were excellent.
Love the tiger fish but my favourite photo is of the buffalo herd.
