With this Gemsbok or Oryx I want to say hello. From my hunt in Africa 10-2010. Im Frank, 40 years old now. From Germany/Europe. This is an great forum and I hope I can get and share some informations about rifles and hunting here. |
But I dont like to hunt only. I also (like the most of you I think) like to watch the animals. ...and to take photos. :-)) |

Dr FM, what is the rifle? Looks like a Steyr Luxus? Its an german rifle, an great one. Its an Heym, SR 30, Special Edition, African King. I see here is an Heym Sub-Form, but there is not mutch informations. Not one. I will see if I have some infos, so I can post them there. :-) |

Very nice, that is the one with the straight-pull bolt, amazing concept! a friend has one in 9.3, fluted barrel. |
This is an 9,3 too. An old and good traditional caliber. ...a little bit "better" as the .35 wheelen. :-) |
I'll regurgitate this one as well. Herd management (ie cheap) male. Old and protective of his females but he had to go for fresher, younger genes. Rifle was a .308W and 165 Woodleighs. The video (again) showing textbook top of the heart and both lung placement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiD5aoNAfTI. The projectile cut from the skin on the opposite side. |

Dr FM Some great photos, glad you shared them. |

Hi Jaguarhunter, Wonderful photo's, are they taken with a telephoto lens as they seem so close you could almost touch them. Cheers, Jeff Gray . |
Like M. S. I go so far as possible and take an shoot (with the camera). :-) ...and yes, sometimes I go with the 500er Tele. :-) :-) |

My Gemsbok. |
I saw my first gemsbok in Zimbabwe on the border with Botswana in 1988. A good distance away. Finally got to hunt them in 2006 in Namibia. Now have two examples as pedestal mounts, as "bookends" for a door, but still lacking the actual wooden bases for them. Gemsbok are such a magnificent animal. |

Namibia/Vieranas Safaris, autumn 2010 PH: Micky something (never got his last name...) Gun: Winchester m/1895 in 8,2x52R + 200grs Nosler Accubond Mauser something bolt-action .30-06 + Norma Alaska 180grs This one was tough as nails! Took 2 hits and 4 good misses to put him down.... This one a tad less so - female shot with the .30-06 in accordance with my alias. - Lars/Finland |

This is the very first animal I took in Africa! I guess this is where you could say that I first got infected with the Bug! And we all know there is NO cure! |
This is my Gemsbok taken in August this year in the Free State where they do not grow as large as other areas. He only scored 82" S.C.I. Those present were Chris Troskie, myself and Mbuto the tracker. Cheers for now, Jeff Gray . |

This is my wife Alicia with my Gemsbok that I took on our first trip in 2006. Obviously at this point I've become distracted and lost interest in hunting... |
Distracted??...oh yeah...I get it..shit I must be gettin' old. |
That's one animal I still need to put up on the wall and they are very tough sometimes. |

I'd post a pic of my Gemsbok, but I found to my dismay I don't have one. I'm reminded of the movie "Full Metal Jacket." There are many like it, but this one is mine. |
