Sako L46 7x33, circa 1948, birch stock, very good bore.

Very nice! Had it long, and did you get it here in Canada? I've never seen one for sale anywhere over here. Bet there's a story behind it! Whatever its' pedigree, it's a beautiful little rifle.

Interesting rifle indeed & the use of a barrel band. If the stock original or was it longer, perhaps?

Re: Sako L46 7x33

I love it

the barrel band and the rear sight is very typical for finnish hunting rifles in this period

for example here is a rifle probably build by sako after the war

I think you see the concept now

That peep sight is a rather rare job - especially here in Oz.
I did see a batch for sale & I was too slow to get one, fully adjustable for windage & elevation & of course very compact.
Lovely little round the 7x33, heading off to find something similar to Capercaillie, turkey perhaps?

That was quick. Hopefully, the new owner will be a forum member. I'm not a Sako owner, but I think they're sorely under-represented.

Re: Sako L46 7x33

Congratulations on your pretty and uncommon Sako L46, Robin; do you have the dies for reloading 7x33 or an ample supply of ammunition?

a MS and a Haenel or Schilling made M 88 hunting rifle

two rifle that lost the stock somewhere, rare combination

what seems very important for finnish hunting rifles in this time was the long rear sight, maybe with the idea to shoot long range when in need just in case the soviet atack again one bad day

Kinda like leaves filed for shooting out to 500yards, on a .500 Nitro and/or Express, for that matter, of little practical use.

I was offered this same model of sight earlier this year by someone here in Canada. I don't have a Sako and it was more than I cared to spend, so I declined. If there's a Sako owner interested, PM me and I'd be happy to check if it's still available.
