Team Im looking at buying a SAKO L61r in 300 Weatherby magnum. However the barrel says: MADE IN GERMANY and the receiver is that bluing that's in fact BROWN and the barrel is a different colour. Whats going on here. Im just a mug from the northern suburbs of Adelaide but its looks like its been re barrelled to me??? You view please?? |

Looks like an early one, I've seen early Sako's go a bit brown/purple in the bluing, different steel to the barrel. Seems to not have the Sako dovetails in the receiver, instead looks to be drilled and tapped. The first thing I'd do though is to get rid of the crappy "Zero" rimfire mounts and put a decent set on it. DC |

Hi 450 Ackley thankyou but that did not answer the question Do you think its been re barrelled? |
I would say it rebarrelled, cant imagine sako use such a barrel because they made good barrels at home |

Quote: A bit more info would be a help. What's stamped on the barrel on the other side? Sako generally had their name on the barrel somewhere as well. They did make L61R's in 300 Weatherby, but only around 1979-1980. |

Hi Hi Ackley, as said above, Im looking at buying this firearm. That means I dont have it and only have the photos sent to me which I have put up for you. But yes Im aware SAKO did make some 300 WBY's and thank you for confirming that. Hi Iancaster, thank you for your feedback, thats what I think as well |

Quote: If it's that much of a concern to you, and it's going to be a few dollars, why not ask for more photos? At least then there would be less of a chance of getting caught out? If the seller won't supply more photos for whatever reason, I'd be walking away. |

Quote:Quote: Agreed. I would be asking for specific photo's of all markings on barrel, receiver and stock. |

G'Day Fella's, Bidyanus 1, I may be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time!), but the "Made In Germany" script on that barrel, look suspiciously like that on German made (Sauer), Weatherby Mk V rifles? Not only the script lay out/font and size but also the location on the barrel. Hope that helps D'oh! Homer |

Thanks Homer I put the weights on the seller and he fessed up...its been re barrelled but he does not know what it was before ????? So team this is the next question, I actually don't want a 7MM WBY what I want to do is convert it to 358 Norman magnum because it does have to correct bolt face and the action is SAKO So am I within my rights to say "you have incorrectly advertised this SAKO as excellent". Its not in excellent condition....its been rebarrelled and as such has its providence...therefore I am only prepared to offer such and such Your views please? |
Mistake above, should read "has LOST its providence" |
So - you are buying a stocked action with what looks to be a Leupold scope. Should be priced accordingly. |
I thought it was a 300 Weatherby? |
Sorry Ackley my mistake its been re barrelled to 300 WBY And yes Daryl S that was my thinking exactly |

Is this the rifle Mialls are advertising ? If so, it was built by Karl Mayer in Germany using a Sako action. You’ll notice the bolt shroud is non Sako also. |
