Interesting article. I built up a swift on a Mauser98 action using a 26" Bevin King barrel.
While it is difficult to get my current model 700 22-250 to shoot under an inch to 3/4", the Swift did it with every bullet I tried in it, from 40gr. Varminators to 55gr. Speer and Hornady Spitzers.
I like them both as I've had several other 22-250's over the years, but only that one Swift. All of my other 22-250's shot like match rifles, right out of the box. The current one, no so.
The brass I bought for the Swift was RP and was the most consistent drawn brass I've had in the small calibres. I am referring to neck wall thickness variation.
Out of almost 500cases, which was purchased out of a single lot (whatever it was?) neck walls on over 1/2 of them, was less than .0005", with only 20 or so cases as much as .0015". This was BR quality brass and might have been partially responsible for the accuracy I enjoyed out of that barrel. It turned Columbia Ground Squirrels into mist & small chunks.

I have a few 22'250's also..and all shoot very well..like you I also have a 220 Swift..Cooper Single shot..always reload for it..its a tackdriver...and yes..turns p-dogs as well as other that size into mist..or very disfigured..:)
I really enjoy both..have used the 22-250's a lot for everything from varmints to deer and pronghorn..works very well..agree with the article..u can get 22-250 ammo everywhere..220 Swift is not as common..but most gun shops here have on flavor or another..have a friend who actually uses his Swift on elk..neck shots only..has taken dozens doing so..

I own neither. Have used a .22/250 a few times. But if I had to choose, I would be partial to a .220 Swift.
I think either with a faster twist barrel for heavier bullets, if suitable hunting bullets were availale, would make a sweet small and medium game rifle.

I just "CAME INTO" a 500 box of 80gr. Sierras. Guess I'm going to have to re-barrel my .22-250 now, with a 9" twist bl.

On second thought - I should probably pick up a fast twist .223. Domestic as well as mil-spec brass overflows the brass trash buckets on our rifle ranges.
Cheap brass - the RCMP who rents out range for qualifications and practice, NEVER picks or cleans up their brass. Only our civilian members do that - interesting - the police do seem rather, ahh - sloppy.
They use Fed Match in the .308's and Fed. brass in their M16's, MP4's or whatever, etc.

Or a 22BR. Friend of mine uses 22-250 ackley imp and it shoots like "a house on fire"...
Would be interesting to try heavy bullets from 22-250 for deers etc.

Great minds...
I recently picked up a Tika in .223 for a truck gun and to practice shooting with through the year.. Like you said, cheap ammo and brass everywhere...

They are both great cartridges, but I believe I have the best of both worlds, with a .22-250AI barrel, for my sleeved, switch barrel Rem 700 rifle.
Earlier this year, I purchased a box of Lapua .22-250 cases, which I have recently been neck turning, to suit the barrels, tight neck chamber.
Looking forward to seeing if the Lapua cases, are or can possibly be more accurate, than the Norma cases that I have been using for years.

YOU made me smile--of course you have a 22-250AI..
What kind of grouping and velocities you getting out of that thing??
The only AI I have is a .280 which I have used on 90% of my mtn hunts around the planet.. She is already nestled in the gun case of my trip to Turkey this Friday.. great caliber..

Good luck on your trip to Turkey RIP, I would love a Big Bezoar Ibex & Boar from Turkey, I fear I never will have the funds for the hunts I want to do, be careful over there I just got home from over 4 months in SA & it is hard to get use to how safe it is in NZ compared, don't have to strapped the Hi Power & knives on ever day here !
Also The .280AI is the only caliber I would think of for serious big game hunting under .30 Caliber in my mind a lighter handier 7mm Mag, be great in a 5lb Weatherby Ultralight, I don't use one but think that ?

The local police used to practice on a quarry on my Dad's land. I used to go and pick up their .380 ACP brass left lying on the ground. And a few .357 Mags. I think they picked up a few, but definitely not a determined search for them.

Good to hear I got "A Smile on ya Dial" there Ripp.
The best 5 shot group (at 100 yards), that I've managed to shoot, is exactly 0.200" (this group was shot, with Remington cases).
The load is;
Nosler 55grn B/Tips,
36.0 grns of ADI, Bench Mark 2 powder,
CCI BR2 primers,
Norma (neck turned) cases (normally used).
With a MV of just over 3800fps (26" MADDCO barrel).
This rifle is a big heavy thing, with a Nightforce 15-55 x 56 Competition scope on it.
I also have a spare Lilja barrel for it, in 6.5 x 47 Lapua.
The rifle shoots better than I can!

Whats the deal with doing a Swift on a Mauser action? I tried some cartridges in one I have and although they fit fine, they would not feed properly.

The rim is slightly larger than the head, ie: semi-rimmed, as it is about .469", instead of .445".
My .220 Swift was put together on a Mark 10 Mauser action & I do not recall any problems with feeding, although I rarely stuffed the magazine full. Usually one up the spout and one in the magazine.

I have BOTH calibers in several rifles..BUT, have shot the 22-250 way more..more of a convenience/time factor..can buy bulk Rem premier ammo in 22-250--50 gr ballistic tips--shoots extremely well in my Rem Sendero or Tikka --use the Tikka when calling predators..the 22-250 really hammers coyotes... Never have had a feed issue with the 220 swift--but, mine are NOT BASED on a mauser style action either..so????
