No.4 Enfield

What is the most powerful, big bore round you could safely put in a No.4 SMLE, wilcat or standard....375 JDJ,9.3X65R, any ideas ?

G'Day Fella's,

Yumastepside, the highest (Factory) pressure cartridge on a No 4, that I know of and is fairly common, is the .308Win/7.62 NATO.
The largest (Big Bore) that I have heard of, is the .444 Marlin.
It is not common but not unheard of, here in Australia.

Looking forward to other, more knowledgeable persons posts!

Hope that helps

You could always do a 400 Lee Speed (slightly shortened 405 Win) like I did on a long Lee action.

Re: No.4 Enfield

.........I've got 80 once fired winchester 7.62x54r cases......I'm thinking, blow them out a bit straighter in the body, move the neck forward to about the same as a 303 and kick them out to 9.5 (.375 )......a bit of work but I love playing with these things, comes from being a machinist I 'spose......
