8x57 IRS

Are there someone out-there that use / have experience with 8x57IRS as a "medium" rifle?
I am considering using it as a meat-gun. RWS has some nice loads with both TIG and new TOG.
Thank you.

Re: 8x57 IRS

Robie,

the 8x57IRS would be fine for your purpose, I think. I use the almost identical 8x60 for medium game as roe deer and moose, and am quite content with it. It works fine without problem, if you just place the bullet in the right spot. Everything you can take with a .30-06, you can take with the 8x57.

And the RWS ammo you mention is quite fine, at least the old TIG. The TOG is recently released, and it will perhap take some times before one can get it.

In what rifle are you intending to shoot the 8x57IRS?

Best regards,

Fritz

I am thinking of using the 8x57IRS in a rifle-drilling (Blaser or Krieghoff). Have you tried Blasers' CDP bullets?

Re: 8x57 IRS

My experience with the 8mm is with an 8X60 RS, (in an old J.P. Sauer SxS double) but it is close enough to the 8X57JS to be able to tell you that these 8mm s are very effective rounds! I use the 200-grain Nosler Partition at 2620 FPS as an all-around load, and have used the Sierra 175 also. Both are good for game up to elk and black bear!!
