Anyone have a lever action rifle in 375 Winchester?

I've had three of the Big Bore 94s since 1979. Seems everytime I sell one,I buy another with in a year. Just keep coming back to them.

I've got one with a Lyman peep and like it a lot but rarely get to use it, so it's still in near new condition though I bought it s/h. Have bought all the 250gr ammo I could find and have a couple of hundred Hornady 220s that came with it. Finally got dies and some Reloader 7 to use with it so might make up some reloads soon.

I have a Williams peep sight for mine, an early top eject XTR Big Bore 94, but prefer the factory rear, however, opened to a shallow V, with an ivory bead up front. I've shot 2 moose with mine, using a 220gr. Hornady and a soft (slow), but exceptionally accurate load in it.
Perfect performance - best of the small bore lever guns. This one cranks out 5 shot groups at 100 meters of 1 1/2", group after group. Heat does not spread the groups - just lucky, I guess.
220's to 2,200fps, 270's at 1,840fps and 300's at 1,565fps.
My moose load with the 220's produced only 1,940fps MV. In testing, it was the second load tried with H335 so I stayed with it due to it's accuracy. With this load (& most others), opened up .30/30 brass works just fine. The lack of speed didn't worry me in the slightest. Both moose were roughly 100 meters way, both killed with a bullet that went through both lungs, and the off shoulder thenand lodged under the hide, perfectly expanded - picture perfect.
Paul- I've tested up to 38.0gr. Re#7 in .375 brass using the 220gr. Hornady - everything from 36.0gr. up worked just fine. Use a drop tube to help settle the heavier loads to prevent bullet distortion when seating and crimping.
I also used Lee's AA1680 load with 220gr. Hornady's - listed as 2,400fps - gave me just over 2,200fps but not very accurate- not good enough in my rifle. The Re#7 at 38.0gr. ran 1 3/4" at 100 meters. Note, that's with the peep sight. The open sights open my shooting to 2" with that load, still jsut fine for hunting big game.

Greenshoots, my brother and I played with a '76 in .45/75 many years ago, then sold it cheap - dagnabbit! It was a fun round, as we made the brass from .348 Winchester brass, not quite perfect, but OK with black powder loads.
Seem to me, once fireformed, the brass held around 85gr. 2F along with the 350gr. bullet.

Nice guns. Don't own a '94 Big Bore but I am a leverhead myself.
My primary gun is a a Model '71 in .348 WIN. The .375 WIN and .38-55 are also great all-rounders for woods hunting.

Not one in 375 but I do have a Win 94 in 356. Shoots way better than a Model 94 is susspose to.

You guys are tempting me...
I had a 30/30 many years ago and was looking to get a 375, but never did. I have been considering a 356 though - I like the idea of using cheap pistol bullets for lots of practice and, of course, a light handy hunting rifle with normal loads. Have you tried pistol bullets in yours?

Yes - Rule303 - the .356 is an amazing round in the accuracy department. It's also surprising on game, too. Althogh there were numberous warnings not to use .358 Win. data, many books show heavier loads for the Model 94 than for the bolt gun's round. Go figure.
My bro needed a better rifle to pack when out hiking with his wife - # of years ago, so I traded him my .356 for his 1958 .32 Spl. He carried that Winchester angle eject for a # of years, then used it when guiding as his back-up rifle for 5 years. It killed wounded moose every year - some from arrows, some from bullets. It's 250gr. RN's never failed to work well, driven by 46.0gr. H335 at 2,156fps. (NEVER use data straight off a web page - ALWAYS start from 5% to 10% lower.
This factory rifle consistantly put up 5 shot groups at 100 meters of 1 1/2", the first two shots almost touching, every time. It carries a 2 1/2X scope. I load the ammo and use .358 Win. dies. Some rifles use and feed .358 brass just fine, mine wouldn't, only as single loaded 'grouse loads' with commercial 9mm cast pistol bullets and TB. These struck the post of the duplex reticle at 25 yards.
