VO Falcon Edition, the $820,000 Hunting Rifle

VO Guns Debuts the Falcon, World's Most Expensive Rifle, for $820,000

Swedish gun and rifle maker VO Vapen, founded in 1977 by master gunsmith Viggo Olsson, fashions the world's most exclusive handmade hunting rifles. Their newest creation, the VO Falcon Edition (above), is the world's most expensive priced at about $820,000. The VO Falcon Edition is a tribute to the deep rooted traditions of falconry in the Arabian world, covered by beautiful engravings of Peregrine and Saker falcons among other luxurious finishes.

The production of VO rifles is limited to a very small number of examples each year. The company holds a royal appointment to H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, and has found great success with ultra-exclusive rifles made for the Middle Eastern market. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi's Royal Family is another VO enthusiast.

The octagon barrels of the VO Falcon Edition are made of legendary Damascus steel. The beautiful and unique steel is strongly connected with the Arabian world and complements the full stock made of the world's finest walnut root. Only five VO Falcon Edition modes will be made, each individually marked with unique embellishments forming a truly ultra-exclusive collection. The first example is now complete; the next four will be built to order.

"When we came to The Gulf Region for the first time in 2005, we were overwhelmed with the warm reception and hospitality from the leaders and from the people," says Olsson. "We understood that this is a region where people appreciate traditions and true craftsmanship. It took us more than a year to develop and build the barrels. As far as we know, it is the one and only rifle in the world with barrels made of Damascus steel."

The name stems from the steel swords made in the vicinity of Damascus, Syria that first gained its mythical reputation during the medieval Crusades. The blade of a Damascus steel sword was said to be able to cut a piece of silk in half as it fell to the ground and was strong enough to cut through a rock without losing its sharpness.

All VO rifles are based on the firm's patented takedown system, allowing the owner to use several different calibers on the same rifle. The Falcon is the first VO takedown rifle to be built with a full stock. Of course the company also specializes in totally unique bespoke creations, entirely customized to the owner's wishes with pretty much any sort of precious ornamentation you could desire.

I think he might be in error there ! When I saw the price I pictured some hideous diamond encrusted thing but apart from the gold claw on the bolt it doesnīt look bad, hard to stick an 800k price tag on though !! best

With no scope mounts and no sights, what good is it exactly? Art for Art's sake is great but I like my rifles to be usable.

And that there was an opportunity to charge them a heap of money !!!

They aren't the only one's who do it.

Just so we understand what is what here.

Thats a nice looking Husky , they have a very silky smooth action , only about $805,000 over priced .

More than a fair margin I would say ?

Re: VO Falcon Edition, the $820,000 Hunting Rifle

Clearly, some in the Middle East have run out of crap to spend their money on.
Looks like a steel barrel with a damascus "sleeve" around the outside.
Or, the fact that there are no sights may lead one to think that it isn't meant to be fired. No mention of the chambering either.
Notice the falcon's talons are encircling the entire Earth.
That certainly appeals to much of the target market there.

Better get the sale in quickly I think before the "dictator" (whichever one it is) is thrown out.

The price tag just shows, some will pay any ridiculous amount of money, just to have the "most expensive".

Sorry but I am a Philistine here - simply can;t see the point. I can think of several great gunmakers in several countries (some of whom participate actively on these forums) who could turn something like this out for a client and easily do better IMHO at a far more sensible price. Viggo Olsen and his son are good gunmakers but other than an Arab or a Russian client, I doubt anyone anywhere would pay their asking price on this rifle.

Mehul is spot on.

Mehul is correct, but what you have to realise is once you get into that level of price - in fact I always said if over $50,000, then it isn't a question of price but a question of
"Is it the right gun for me" or "do I like the gun".

Price is not an issue to the Arabs, Russians et al.

Have a close look at the pic of the muzzle and tell me that the barrel isn't sleeved.

Here is the distinction.

VO is where you spend the money.
You are who spends the money at VO.

It's pretty simple, conspicuous consumption.

Where is the photo of the muzzle ?

What you say could well be the case.

After all, Christensen Arms line them with Carbon Fibre.

Just going to see what Calibre it is.

Is this how a screw hole should look like on a $800000+ rifle?:

Re: VO Falcon Edition, the $820,000 Hunting Rifle

The VO rifles are built I think upon a Italian 1900 mechanism. Here is a real Husqvarna 1900 made in Husqvarna for a jubilee in number of 20. Number 1 went to the Swedish King Carl Gustav. This one is number 14. They all are engraved by Hans Svensson. The Husqvarna emblem is made of 24 k gold. The price I donīt know but maybe 5 % of this VO weapon above. In compare to that this is a better buy in my opinion. I looked at it today at a gun store. //Staffan
