What are ICQ numbers? There is a box on these forums for them. What do they do? And how do they work?

You register and download from http://web.icq.com or you run a web version from there. Then you find for example me and Frederik and add us to your list. Then tou are able to see when we are online and can request a chat (written) or send messages.
I have not used mine for several years but does it now since Frederik asked me and it would be great if you had it to. It's free.

DONT KNOW ABOUT ICQ BUT YAHOO MESSENGER AND MSN MESSENGER ARE GREAT FOR THE SAME CHAT WITH ALMOST INSTANTANEOUS TRANSFER OF PICS AND FILES--FAR QUICKER THAN E-MAIL BOTH ARE FREE AND EASY TO USE

Haven't used Yahoo messenger yet.
But for me it would not be an option as I have to log on onto the net before I can start with ICQ at work I log on once a day and don't have to worry about bandwidth traffic.
