looks to me like a group of whats called in german "Sonntagsjäger" - sunday hunter lady were also part on this trip into the countryside

You're right that's a coordinated operation, with a "chief" as stated in the commentaries. In my opinion they encircled the buffs and somes beaters or eles moved them.
Have You an idea of the rifle used? Quite a "tattooer" for shoulder.

My guess is a Browning Auto 5 shotgun and probably posed pictures nothing to do with the actual shots taken to down the buff.

I was thinking its a FN 1900 in 35 Rem but there is a lot of smoke when fired so its possible you are right about the Auto 5
