Club Hunt

The local Big Game Rifle Club had organized a foray in the Back Country Hunting block at Litchfield Park a week ago.
It was an outstanding 'social' success judging by the empties scattered around the fire-pit each morning, and everyone who hunted got something, so a great weekend all round!

However it was bloody hot down there and most of the better creek-lines have been walked already by other hunters.
The quarry was understandably wary, usually alerted by the wind direction invariably changing to 'straight up the arse' when closing on game!

Steve won the tin of powder donated by F&OW for the most meritorious shot, a long-range feral horse with the .400 double,
and Barry nailed a young pig close enough to the track to retrieve the meat and his lads produced grilled pork entrees for everyone that evening. Very tasty!

My bag included a few horses, a young buff, and this nice boar:

If the wind direction settles down, we might consider another visit in October to tidy-up the buffalo and boars we left behind.

That is, unless someone else gets them first!

Re: Club Hunt

Nice boar..congrats...

I always find it interesting to read of hunts in other parts of the world. The variety of game taken is always quite different..hunting and shooting wild horses, cattle, etc...very different than in N America... if we started shooting horses over here the greenies would scream to the mountain tops... and frankly we should, in certain areas on government land their populations are way too high...

Congrats again on what looks to have been a great time..

Well done mate. Glad to see the BGRC Darwin club hunt was a success.

Re: Club Hunt

Cracked another big tusker with the .400 Nitro last Sunday, same general area but adjacent private property.

My hunting mate Marty absolutely flattened a nice buff as well, the first with his 'new' Parker Hale .404.
Thought it was an albino at first: that would have been a real score, but it had just been wallowing in yellow clay!

The results certainly vindicated our choice of forty-cals for the day!

Unfortunately the Back Country Hunting blocks are now closed for the year due to heavy rain to the south-west of Darwin last week.
We will certainly try to be the first booking in for next year!

Well done Marrakai & Marty - nice take!
Bloody jealous a Parker Hale in .404, would be the real deal too!
