Re: A croc tale

Interesting and a lucky plucky man!

Having had dengue I would not want to be sitting in a cage waiting for a monster croc to arrive!

Would also like to see the footage.

Re: A croc tale

In the early 80s I used to work at Argyle diamond mine 200 ks south of Wyndam.
As usual the Bell truck showed up with food and gear for the mine.It used to be a triple road train
The driver if behind time would off load as quick as possible and head to Wyndam.
This particular trip the driver unloaded and went through to Wyndam. When he finished at Wyndam he went to the pub got pissed ( drunk) and decided to go for a swim.He has never been seen since.

Re: A croc tale

A very good read, would like to see the photos.

biggest croc I have seen in the was estimated to be a little over 5 mts. It was huge but would not be as big as Furgus.

Re: A croc tale

On a fishing trip with Bruce Ellison at his bush camp on the Ord river we came upon a dead croc floating in the river. We drew up next to it.The punt we were in was 12 feet long. There was easily 4foot past the end of that boat. He had been dead for a while as he had gassed up and the gas was bubbling out from the skin, we didn't to hang about partly because of the smell and partly that some of his mates may have been feeding off him .He had lost a rear leg at some stage in his long life.
A few days later we were told that some ringers from Carlton Hill station had found the body and had dragged it ashore and removed the head. The head may still be at Carlton, this was before Kerry Packer bought it so the skull may have moved on. Apparently it was a 20 foot croc.I know the one that we saw was 16 feet not 20.

Re: A croc tale

Most big crocs in the NT were killed at 5m in length. They then grow at the rate of a foot a year after death until they reach an even 20ft.

Re: A croc tale

Thats funny, I think your close on that all right, 16footers are big Bastards, Im fairly sure I saw one in the Ocean off this bay I know at Coburg, that would be 19-20 foot, head as long as the Cruiser, not as wide but, & looked like a large boat in the water !

Maybe two others near as big or more one from the plane when doing recon for Buff areas along the coast at the mouth of some big river & one at Victoria River passed Timber Creek on the Horse or Little Horse River, he was huge but hard to see in the muddy water, ate horses & Scrubers like chicken snacks !

But agree the ones I see the skulls of are all around the 14-16 foot models but im told off 18-20 footers, grow after Death like you said ! LoL

Re: A croc tale

I reckon I have seen that big one at Timber Creek. Big dark animal that from front on looks to be the size of a VW beetle. Watched him one evening trying to grab cattle that were coming down to drink near Sandy Island. Tried half a dozen times but never quite got one. Most guys cannot accurately pick the width of a room but can swear that a croc half submerged in the water is 20foot long.

They get bigger than 20' gents!

For their size they can move extremely quickly & enter the water virtually without noise, seen it done while fishing for Barra around Normanton. Property owners lose cattle & horses every year & they're only getting bigger as they haven't been shot for 40+ years - no fear of man.

Re: A croc tale

Sure do,I did a six month build in Karumba and there are so many big crocs about that they need a cull.

I snapped this pic of one of the local barra boat deckhands about 20 years ago. They are croc teeth,he wouldn't part with them either.
Mike Bailey has the saw shark bill btw.

Re: A croc tale

That story of Krys the savanah monster is just that. One womens story. Was never measured and has never been verified and is not in any Guiness records, or any other records people like to say it is. And the photo that everyone says is that croc is not. It was on the Roper river NT as can be seen on the caption on the photo that always seems to be cropped off when it is claimed to by Krys. Its like my mate who got a 120 inch buffalo. Hung the head in a tree and someone stole it. Yep right.

Re: A croc tale

Probably another 16footer or so, sitting miles back & all bloated up, the head gives em away I reckon !

Here is my 120+ model, I need to buy my own capes back now to mount him, as some one traded them on a bill .

Thank you Daryl, yes I like him, the Stags are a couple of my Sika from Japan .

No mate not out of a tree, thank you for the offer, just I shot the capes myself & one is just right for this head I think, I did all the work on them to, now that a couple of my bosses have passed I dont have a job up in the NT any more !
