question on Victoria

I am in the process of moving to Oz. I see some places it is legal to own the Thompson Center single shot pistols. My question is it legal to own and hunt with the T/C Encore pistol in Victoria? Mine is a .30-06.

I know I have to jump through a bunch of hoops before I can get a firearms license. And I have to have that before I can have a gun.

I would like to eventually get mine down there.

Getting the firearms license is easy but you can not hunt with a hand gun in Victoria at all. As far as I know it is the same in all of Australia.

Bummer. If I make it down I am going to settle around Heathcote. Guess I will have to go back to using a rifle.

Why have you chosen Heathcote ? Nothing wrong with your choice, I am just interested.

To bring your Thompson handguns to Australia, you will need a Handgun licence. To obtain this you will need to join a suitable handgun target shooting club. Get the licence, probably will need to attend a few course/education sessions, a safety practical test, and a written exam. Then possibly wait for X months before you can obtain your first handgun.

That is how it is for locals anyway. But check Victoria's own requirements. And maybe scout out suitable clubs and ask them.

If you have a number of Thompson handguns and want them all, check specifically if that will work or not.

My mom's youngest brother is a Aussie citizen and he lives in Melbourne. Him & I are close and he loves the Bendigo area. He got me started on it. I chose Heathcote because I prefer small towns and the more research I do the more I like the place.

If you like small towns that are close to Bendigo then you might want to have a look at Maldon. Beautiful little town and only a short distance for duck and Quail shooting. Heaps of rabbits, hares and foxes and not to far for Fallow deer. My family and I go there regularly, we love the place. Easy access to the Calder highway and not far from Bendigo or Castlemaine.

Bendigo is as close to a home town as comes. Spent my childhood, or a good part of it, about 30 miles north of there. Good area all up.
