G'day all. A few mango seasons have rolled past since I last posted regularly on NE.com, and many of the older members have probably been wondering what happened. Its a long story, suffice to say that I have still been hunting when opportunity permits and have acquired a couple more interesting toys along the way. For those of you who remember the "Fat Lady", I am sad to report that she will be looking for a new dance partner in the near future, as I have over-committed financially with a 'new' .577 Army & Navy double, a 12-bore Paradox, and a Jeffery .256 Mannlicher, all currently in-bound. With this in mind, and the fast-approaching wet-season combined with increasing commitments over the holiday period, I took the Greener .577 out for a "last hurrah!" Hope you enjoy the report: Last Dance with the Fat Lady |

Marrakai, Great to see you back, we have missed your input & knowledge base, not so happy to hear of the A&N 577 if it is a Webley long action in BPE from the US as you beat me out of it LoL ! I've been waiting for years on one of them, pleased you have it if that is the case, may be I could see it one day ? Cheers |

Welcome back! It was a pleasure to meet you for a brief moment last June with Cal and Bob. That Fat Lady sang one heck of a last song! |

Very nice trophy too during the hot hunting month of November. Always interesting to read and hear about buffalo even when hard hit by a large calibre, still taking several shots to finally succumb. Something many do not realise. Thanks for the post and hearing you still walk the Earth. |

Quote: Then ad the fact that it is possibly charging from Tall grass or bush thicket at a few paces then you increase the benefits of a heavy large diameter bullet or two. My last three Buffalo hunts where ideal situations for a heavy double. Come to think about it, so was my two Lion hunts, all of my Elephant hunts and a good portion of the other buffalo taken. |

Mick (264) is still the current custodian of the Fat Lady afaik, and while he obviously has choices when he opens the gunsafe prior to a hunt, that stumpy double has been put to good use in his employ! I moved it on to help afford an original Army&Navy-retailed Webley screw-grip in .577 Express as a replacement. Killed a few buff with the 'new' rifle but still haven't bent the stock to fit me properly so the recoil is a bit "uncomfortable". Some might even refer to the 650gr bullet at 1840 fps from a 10 1/4 lb gun as "brutal" but they're obviously just softies...! |

Yes I still own the "Fat Lady". Its not going any where ! Didn't use it much last year and on the few trips I carried it no game taken. Still running Marraki's loads as they regulate well. Intimidating round that surprises most people when they shoot it that the recoil isn't that bad. 650 woodleighs handle buff well. heres some footage of it in action. @1.12 cheers Mick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7DDe2vPwro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nmviS8rogg reloading for the 577 2 3/4 light nitro |
