Re: Fallow buck thread

Tasmanian Fallow shot in 1997 with Gerard Kirkham of ‘Hunting Safaris Tasmania’

1997 Fallow 1.

1997 Fallow 2.

This Fallow was shot after I had tripped in thongs the night before at camp and thought that I had “Twisted” my ankle and found out several days later that in fact the foot was broken. No wonder I needed pain medication.

In February 1998 on a ‘Father & Son’ hunt again with Gerard Kirkham I shot 2 Fallow that scored 225 D.S. and 218 D.S. which was later verified by the late Master Scorer Mr Gordon Alford on this same hunt my son Simon shot a lovely Black Fallow scoring 199 D.S.

1998 Fallow 1.

1998 Fallow 2. & Simon’s Fallow.

This one was shot at Millares, same place we had the monteria last Nov. I shot this one last february, it was good enough for a Gold which gave me a grin, I did have another photo with me in the frame but I can't find it best, Mike

Re: Fallow buck thread

I have the Fallow Buck right up there as a desirable animal along with the Nyalla and Sable. There is something about the black Fallow that is quite magnificent. The few I have taken were for the freezer so no photo's and the area close to home they inhabit is heavily poached so I havent been going after them for a while. Looking forward to some good pics.

Hi Mike Bailey,

There very nice indeed, I don't know what you have found but the antler shape and size varies from country to country.

Hi Matt,

I had a few of mine done at Eastman Photographics, the trick is make it worthwhile, give them 10-20 to do at one time as they charge a $10 fee for the disk & auto program and then it is just about 10-20 cents per scan. Mine was from photo's not slides.

Cheers to you both,

Jeff Gray

Re: Fallow buck thread

This is my buck from South East QLD, 2003. Not a monster, but a solo hunt in difficult terrain. Very open and hard to approach deer.

Hi CF,

Very unusual colors on the rump area, it's only the women that says size matters but it is really the hunt.....

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

This was my first fallow buck, not the most impressive antlers (mount by Plumb Taxidermy), however he was the first!

Cheers

Re: Fallow buck thread

Took this Fallow in Central Texas in 1993. The Outfitter put me in a blind and for two days the deer never approached closer the 200 yards. I told the Outfitter I wanted to stalk the deer like we stalked Blacktails back home in Oregon. He told me I would never get close to him. 30 minutes later I shot the deer from 20 yards with my 7 TCU XP-100. Outfitter had never seen anything like that in his life. Found out he had never hunted any where but right there in Texas and mostly for whitetail. I never hunted a blind in my life until I went to Texas. Record book of Exotic 1994 score 96 5/8. Number 13 Handgun that year.

Re: Fallow buck thread

Pity that many here have split palms but as long as they eat well them who cares eh? BTW mate, a scrim facemask is probably the best thing of all and puts the usual camo brigade to shame. (was using same from the early 80's with much success)

Your sambhur "can't see me" pic is a classic!
