The rook rifle was designed to shoot up through the bottom of a rooks nest thereby killing the chicks as well as the adult birds.
The particular rifle I am familiar with is a Holland and Holland SxS in 297/250 calibre.
It sits in the same rack as a 600NE H&H Double and also a 577 H&H Double.
