The 416 Rem Mag was designed for bolt action magazine rifles, and should only be chambered for bolt rifles, and ones with controled feed extractors. This leaves Remington out of my list as appropriate for their own 416!. They churn up so much chamber pressure that you just may have one junp the extractor of a break open or falling block type action. The 416 Rigby is somewhat better for this purpose, but the best and newest would be the 500/416 brought out a couple of years ago. It completely flabergasts me that these manufacturers turn out 375 H&H and 416 Rem's in inappropriate action types. They don't give a shit about field results, just sales hype. The 416 Rem is the same as a 416 Rigby out the barrel, and for that it is a wonderful caliber...in the right gun. It will make an excellent elk, moose, eland, gemsbuck, wildebeest caliber in a single shot. |
