On a trip to Africa in the 1970's, I picked up a badly abused Farquharson, made, I believe, by Gibbs, and chambered for the .450/.400 NE. Both barrel and stock were in deplorable condition, so I replaced the stock with a duplicate, using the original buttplate, etc. and had the rifle rebarrelled in caliber .50 Alaskan. Although I still enjoy shooting it in this configuration, I have from time to time entertained the thought or restoring it to its original condition with a genuine NE caliber, such as .500 NE. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith I could safely entrust with this task? |
