Thank you, Bramble and 450. I have a couple Ruger No.1s (one in 30-30 for long-range single shot competition and a 7mm Mag for hunting). In eyeballing those it did appear to me that some material would have to be removed from the top of the breech block, but it was very close hence the question. The comments on the extractor/ejector solution and cutting down the safety are both appreciated. Actually, on my 7mm, I too flattened the front of the safety. As cartridges were ejected the base would hit the safey and stop right there requiring hand removal...not a problem on the target rifle but certainly a nuisance on a hunting rifle. Dan
