The proof date is often on the bottom barrel near the chambering designation (7.8 X 57 or the like) It will read month, then year in most instances...9/19 for Sept 1919, etc. If it is in the 30s, you will have a pre-war gun made at the right time. It is my opinion that the mid 20s to late 30s guns were the best.

Just sell me the damned thing and be rid of all the anguish over these issues! Man, you are hard headed. Are you German or Scandinavian...?
