thanks for the replies gentlemen. i've changed my mind on the 300 H&H. will be picking up a no 1 sporter in 7x57. think it will work well for the hunting i will be doing. nothing bigger than gemsbok, and mostly smaller species like impala and whitetails in my neck of the woods.
