Re: Pedersoli Creedmoor No 2 Shaprs 45-120

My thoughts on the Pedersoli's, Shilo Sharps and C.Sharps rifles is that while the Pedersoli's have 4140 actions and are possibly stronger,(I don't know what the American made ones are made of) as well as according to Lyman's & other) data, that they are capable of handling pressure up to about 34,000CUP. This restriction isn't due to action strength so much as it is to action design. The angled firing pin of large size is the limiter here.
: That said, some load data is even held to what the BP 'factory' black powder load developed, (under 30,000CUP) while other data runs the gammut of 'supposedly' safe loads up to the 34,000CUP level.(BP .50x3-1/4" held to 28,000 and .50x 2-1/2" to 22,000 in equivalent smokless data)
: Each round will probably break the 4,000fpe bracket with careful loading with the .50 cal being the 'hardest' hitter due to it's much larger diameter bullet. The long cased .45's are a bit more difficult to load for due to 'extra' space in the case that must be filled with an inert filler of some sort to keep hang-fires out of the equation.
: One must develope his data carefully, watching for primer protrusion with large firing-pin rifles. I have heard, although not seen some 'replica's' that supposedly have small pins capable of handling higher pressures - I don't know these rifles or their capabilities. One must be aware of manufactuerer's limitations. To say it is OK with factory .45/70 load, usually means the ones suitable for trap-door Springfields which are held to about 22,000CUP (Win or Rem factory) or to a max of 28,000 according to Lee's handloding data for the .45/70- Any action loads. 28,000 CUP is the level Speer loads .45/70's to for Marlin lever actions ONLY - one must be careful.
