Might I am even more picky, but my understanding of caoe guns is hey were side by side guns, one rufled barrel, one smooth bore, and used in Cape Province of Southern Africa. Mostly used by Dutch, Boer of Afrikaaner9 settlers. So definitely might not be of British manufacture. I am ignorant of any preferred barrel placing.

So by definition, a "Cape Gun" is a side by side mixed rifled and smooth barrelled gun, FROM or USED in Cape Province.

Though today, the term "Cape Gun" is often applied to any side by side mixed smooth bore and rifled bore barrelled gun. Usually of medium or larger bore rifle calibre.
