He retired to Duncan, BC, then a popular place for the british upper middle class and officers, until his death in 1931
His brother was the author of Dracula, the horror novel.

There was a vampire story from India or Afghanistan, of an old vampire or blood drinking monster living in a mountain cave, which preyed on locals. Something about it could not leave the cave or die until it infected someone else to replace it in the cave. Maybe a Kipling tale? But more likely a Stoker tale, from the brother, rewritten as Transylvania.
