Re: Col Allisons 300 H&H Soroka 07

Yeah I understand your point, however I just don't think that a Falling Block rifle which isn't made by an English gunmaker will be very easy to sell at that price here in Australia regardless of how nice and well made it is. Especially as this one has no open sights, and although the owner would probably never use them, it just finishes the appearance of the rifle. A Falling Block rifle without open sights just looks wrong, as if something is missing. Of course they could be added later but that's more money.

The Saroka action is a beauty and solves many of the problems of the original action however they were expensive to produce and Glen only wanted to sell whole completed rifles built and finished in NZ. I spoke to him a number of times as I was interested in buying one but he wouldn't sell just an action and the extractor was designed for rimless cartridges and he wouldn't make an extractor for a flanged round. I eventually gave up.

From memory, as it was probably fifteen years ago that I spoke to him, the Single Shot Action was just a side show as he had other businesses which made him actual money. Thats probably why there were no more than 20. He was a very nice chap to talk to though.

Matt.
