Won an auction this morning that is a bit strange. 7/8" = 7 bore. Large Antique Breechloading Pinfire rifle, by Devisme of Paris, #1983, 7/8" bore, 27.75" heavy round-to-octagonal browned twist-pattern barrel with block-blade front and folding 3-leaf rear sight marked "50-100-150" (meters), marked "Devisme a Paris" in gold atop the 9" octagonal breech section with cannon rings at juncture. Scroll-engraved blued and casehardened action breaks open at breech with long under-lever for loading/manual extraction, marked "No 1983" and "An 1863" (presumed year of mfg.), has back-action lock marked "Devisme", large hammer and steel furniture all engraved en suite. Walnut stock has buttplate with door opening to 2 butt traps, trigger guard with front grip, sling loop at belly. Condition is very fine, retaining approx. 75% thinning brown, bright blue to release-lever section, faint (but mostly silvered) case colors, sharp edges, markings and engraving. Action is strong and crisp, bore is bright with sharp rifling. |
