Capt Curl has given excellent advice. I have done quite a bit of hunting with a 9,3x74R double rifle. It is an excellent calibre.Use 286 grain bullets for big game and all game up close [I have taken game to 300 yards with 286 grain bullets]. You can use 232 to 250 grain bullets for smaller game [deer sized] at a distance. Go to a gun store and "heft" a 375 No1 then "heft" 1-A in 30-06. I would build my 9,3x74R No1 to the size and weight of a No1 1A. I might make mine with a 24 or 26" bbl.My 9,3 double weighs 7 1/4 lbs without scope, recoil is not bad. It is my favorite rifle under 40 calibre. The 9,3x74R is a great hunting cartridge. |
