Re: Four From Across the Pond

OK guys, what is the rationale for some single shots having a hammer on the left side as well as the more common right side?

For left handed shooters?

Alexander Henry often used a left-hand lock on his single shot rifles to aid a right-handed shooter. It puts the hammer out of the way for loading and unloading the rifle. Access to the breech is completely clear of the hammer.

With the hammer on the right side of the rifle a right-handed shooter must navigate around the hammer to load or unload his rifle.
