Believe it or not this rifle was posted on gunbroker. The description and pictures showed what could have been a very poor condition rifle but after talking to the seller and requesting some additional photographs I was confident enough that it was a good gun. The entire rifle was covered in a substance that was intended to protect it - much like cosmoline - but whatever it was had gummed up the trigger and safety making them inoperable. Knowing how the action works, I was pretty sure that the issue was the gumminess and grime causing the problem. Steve Bertram received the rifle for me and did the cleaning. I’m sure he can better describe what it was like. Turned out to be better than I was anticipating so am very happy with it. It is chambered for the 3” Jeffery cartridge and the bore is very nice. I have a couple grease groove molds I can try and my heavy paper patch bullet but would be interested in trying some of the reduced loads you guys have tried. The rifle seems light - I will weigh it next chance I get. |
