H. BARELLA, GERMANY
A SCARCE 25-BORE NEEDLE-FIRE SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING-RIFLE, MODEL 'BARELLA'S PATENT', no visible serial number,
circa 1870, with re-browned octagonal slightly swamped 28 1/2in. damascus barrel, the top-flat signed 'H. BARELLA KONIGL: HOF. BUCHSENM: IN MAGDEBURG' and inlaid in silver, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with additional folding leaf, engraved band at breech, full relief carved and engraved receiver with depictions of game and oak-leaf scrolls, false percussion fences, yellow-metal shield inlet to the top-strap initialled and engraved with a crown, cocking indicator to top-strap, walnut butt-stock chequered at the wrist and carved with an angular raised cheek-piece, engraved complex shape patchbox and heel-plate, horn trigger-guard tang cover, double set triggers, plain walnut schnabel-tipped fore-end with engraved mount and rotary 'Barella Patent' swing under-lever with horn handle, fitted with broad iron swivels









think this was made int the 1860s before Barella move from Magdeburg to Berlin
