Edited. Calibre/Item: 6.3x57R / 257 Roberts Rimmed Make: Schiwy Model: Single Shot Action: Falling Block Scope: Ziess Zielmar 2.5x Condition: Good Price: $3300 Comment: This superb mid-1930s German Falling Block single shot rifle bears the manufacturer's name of L Schiwy of Berlin SW68. It is fitted with its original Zeiss Zielmar 2.5x telescopic sight in quick detachable claw mounts. The highest quality workmanship guarantees that there is no change of zero when re-fitting the scope to the rifle. A set of metallic sights being a fine silver bead ramp front sight with a 2 leaf folding rear sight is also fitted. The 29"/72cm part octagonal/part round barrel features a finely checkered full length flat top rib. The bore is in very good condition with strong rifling along its entire length – no pitting etc. The action is tight with absolutely no looseness and shows color case hardening across the action and falling block lever surfaces, signifying little usage. Top action safety, double set triggers, plus tasteful engraving of metal work is set off by monogram showing MDL SCHIWY DRP (DRP signifying Deutsches Reich Patent i.e. the action is a original Schiwy patented design). Google search will show this gunmaker was also a top rated gun designer and his services were used by many extremely wealthy clients of that era. The NSW firearm rego docs show the calibre as 257 Roberts Rimmed which is the more common designation used for 6.3x57R in non-European countries. This is a very accurate and versatile calibre suitable for all small game up to deer. This calibre is an easy and inexpensive reload option. Case stretch is not a problem in falling block actions so reloading fired cases merely requires neck resizing. The walnut stock shows some normal handling wear has no defects or cracks and features fine checkering, borders and motifs. The stock is intended for hunting offhand style shooting and the scope sight comes to the eye very easily in field use. With double set triggers you have the option of either using the standard trigger for closer shooting or setting the hair trigger for smaller or more distant targets. The Zeiss scope has a medium picket post with side bars and is optically perfect. Please note that it is extremely rare to find a rifle and original claw mount scope combination still intact, so this is a rare opportunity to buy such a quality item and in a calibre very useful for general game hunting in Australia. Ammunition/cases can be supplied with gun at no extra cost if required (buyer to discuss based on relevant state laws). Can supply more info/pics to genuine enquirers |
