Fair reasoning but I would say you could do the same thing with a 10 shot repeater and tell the kid he needs to harvest 10 animals , one a day.

What made your shooting there was an economy of rounds, rather than action type.

I'll let a beginner start on whatever he wants and teach marksmanship and killing with one shot comes down to being two things -more chance of killing it, and economy.

And that's all.

Regarding ethics, humanity, respect etc the simple fact is if we really gave a shit we would not be ending its life for sport.

Whether someone wants to ruin an animal's day with a whole magazine, or two shotgun blasts with 18 pellets of 00 buck, or 1 good shot, it's purely a matter of personal taste.
