Re: Luftwaffe Survival drilling - J P Sauer & Son M30

Anybody know how many of these were actually made?

I gotta tell you the whole concept of issue of such a gun is quite amazing. Really when you think of it, a very useful tool should a crew been wrecked in the middle of nowhere. IMO maybe the coolest "military" gun ever made.

Brings to mind Nansen's choice of a pair of combination guns for himself and Johansen for their amazing top-of-the-world trek in 20 ga by 9.3x57R/360. Interestingly their choice of rifle calibers was quite anemic considering the .360 isn't much better than a heavily loaded .357 Magnum in a rifle and they killed quite a number of polar bear with them. Wise choice tho since they had to haul them after killing the dogs, ammo weight was to be considered so 20 bore and the little 9.3 round made a lot of sense.

The M30 was really quite the Cat's Rat. Nothing a fellow couldn't handle in North Africa {or anywhere else!} with a 12 bore and 9.3x74R.

As for Wallace, he has a lot of kinsmen. I can't tell you how many primo old guns we used to take in that had the previous owner's Driver's License Number or Social Security Number electropenciled on receiver or barrel!!
