this Drilling was made before WW 1 so the Hensoldt Diasta 4x32 scope was coming much later.
No question that the original caliber was not .22 Hornet, since it was developed in the 1920's. The 5.6X35 Vierling was the equivalent of the earlier .22 WCF, introduced by Winchester as a black powder cartridge in 1885.
