After looking at a bunch of different cartridges for my #1-B project I decided on the .405. Bullet variety is great, 210gr .41 Mag bullets for varmints, 265gr cast lead/gas checked bullets for deer, 300gr bullets for big deer (you can really get a 300gr Barnes X cooking in a #1

) and the lovely 400gr Woodleigh in soft or solid flavor for big critters.

Kick isn't too bad with the up to 300gr bullets, you do know something happened when touching off a 400gr @2,000fps

That load will put them into an inch at 100yards too.

And that long lean rimmed cartridge with the annealing band around the mouth just looks right sliding into a single shot.
