It seems as though higher quality break action singles had a very short heyday, at least as far as those of British make. My guess is that the falling block rifles were less costly to make and maybe a bit more accurate. Is this assumption correct? Is there a reason why their popularity lived on in Europe? Is it because much of the hunting there is in mountainous terrain and a klipplauf is easier to pack in the field?
