Mike, I am not a Ruger singleshot owner and didn't know about the accurizer you mention, but I agree 100% about the stocking being the most logical source of problems. Even if the boring is not optimum, my guess is that the stocking up of these guns is less than 100% desireable and is probably the main worm in the flour. I've read so much over the years about inconsistent accuracy of Ruger No.1's. Having worked with lots of two-piece stock guns I'd concur with you. As an aside, Ruger 77's are my favorite "modern" rifle but IMO I wouldn't consider any Ruger rifle anything but a "kit gun" requiring probably rebedding and attention to such details in order to make it shoot. One other thing; I also think Ruger is doing something like lapping their current barrels. Holy cow the .264 Hawkeye I bought has the smoothest interior bore of any gun I've bought in years. And then I cleaned a friends .358 and it, too was slicker than Willie. |
