Saw a Vierling once (.22rifle over and under (7mm) side by side smoothbore 16's), long ago, when I worked a short time in a gun sales shop in Vancouver. It felt a bit heavy for rising birds, but would have worked from a blind.

The .22 in the rib is a wonderful idea. It would be fun for potting bunnies that 'hold'.
