Hello grantc, Can't argue with Ben's results with his 450/400, that calibre and the No.1 seem to be an excellent pairing The 450 NE would be well worth a look. I have a No.1 in 450 NE and love it (still haven’t blued it yet though, must get that done soon). At 50 yards with open express sights, it shoots 500 grain Hornady's and 480 grain Woodleigh's into ridiculously small and very satisfying groups, like less than an inch. 480 grain cast lead bullets also shoot really well at 50 yards. At 100 yards with the jacketed bullets and express sights it groups a pretty consistent 2-1/2 inches. I cannot see (or shoot) as well with open sights at longer ranges so I'm very happy with 100 yard results like those. There are heaps of different jacketed .458 calibre projectiles out there to choose from, not to mention the options should you decide to have a play with cast lead bullets. Loading those straight sided cases is a snap and case life is excellent too. I use my 450 mainly as my group 2 rifle at our Big Game Rifle Club shoots, but quite often I've been known to take it out after wallabies and rabbits. It carries nicely, it balances properly, it shoots well and it's comfortable to shoot. It's just a really nice rifle. Turns out to be a pretty fair sort of a rifle for feral cats too Best ALEX |
