Re: My Adventure With Ruger No.1 in .450/.400 3" NE...

The station manager's wife heard the dogs going crook one night, and went outside to find some buffalo in her garden. So, we've done a few trips out to poke along the nearby creek, and two of them have turned something up.

Earlier in the week, I got this little fellow. Two Woodleigh 400 grain Hydros did the trick, both entering the front of the chest next to each other. One was quartering-on, which exited out the ribs; I couldn't find an exit for the perfectly front-on one. He was shot at about seventy metres, and made perhaps forty. There was no need for insurance shooting.

Gabby waited very patiently for permission to tuck-in:

Then finally, today, my Kiwi mate was able to shoot his very first, also with the Woodleigh 400 grain Hydros. The shot distance was about sixty or seventy metres, and was taken front-on, exiting out in front of the hip, low-down. The little fellow made about seventy metres before crashing, and although probably unneccessary, two insurance shots were taken into the spine, both of which exited. Good meat all-round!
