I think perhaps it is a High Wall - don't know for sure. In the Winchester you can load it a bit higher than factory - ie: 2,350fps to 2,450fps with 170gr. the factory stuff is 2,220fps or so from a 20" bl. I suspect the Winchester will have a 26" bl. and might give around 2,320fps for the 170gr. PP. Winchester factory ammo with 170gr. Power Points was very accurate in my 20" Carbine of 1958 - to the tune of 1 1/2" at 100 yards for 5 shot groups. RP factory 170's made 6" patterns. I loaded up a batch of 170gr. HOrnady FN's for it, however traded off the rifle before testing them in the M94. the fellow who bought it, said they were not quite as accurate as the WW factory, but both he and his son could hold 2" at 100 yards with it. Not bad for factory horrid iron sights on a lever gun. I think it is a tiny bit better than a .30/30 - and more so with the Single Shot's longer tube. US made factory 8x57 Mauser ammo is not any faster than what that Winchester will put out. I'd buy it if the price was right. It would have to be quite wrong, as the action is valuable in itself, to a BP ctg. shooter. |
