I recently picked up another Farquharson - bit of a project. It is a plain finish no-name gun with a serial number in the 16000 range - the number is stamped just in front of the lever hinge - I haven't seen any others stamped here. It is done in the Rigby style. My major concern is that the chambering is something like a 9X57R - that is what it was described as - but none of my X57R brass will chamber. Looks like the base diameter of my cases is a larger diameter than the chamber. I did a chamber cast and it measures out a bit longer than the 9X57 should too. The rub is: the barrel looks like it may actually be lined to the .358" groove diameter. My hope was that it is chambered in the 400/350Rigby but it isn't - chambers are too short. So, my question here is, would it be safe to rechamber the gun to the 400/350 to make use of the already .358" barrel and of course to keep it in a British chambering. If not, I plan on rebarreling it to the 400/350 and using the barrel band sling swivel as well as the front and rear sights. |
