Sir Aubrey received two .450s and two .350s from Rigby shortly after the Boer Wars. The .350s had tang safeties. The .450s had more engraving and side safeties. I have read that he was an avid sport hunter, especially upon his retirement. At one point in his life he was a political prisoner and when he was finally released he received a cash settlement. In some references it is claimed that Woolls-Sampson was a single shot fan. He helped form the Imperial Light Horse regiment and some report that he used his settlement money to outfit the regiment with Martini single shot rifles even though the rest of the forces carried Enfields. Wal Winfer's book has pictures of the two .350s that belonged to Woolls-Sampson and states, "From the author's collection." So we now know of the existence of the two .350s (one apparently for sale in Oz) and one of the .450s. I wonder where the second .450 is. ~ |
