Re: Ruger No1 577NE

Hi Guys, the rifle was built for me by Bob DeVries at Kudu services here in Melbourne, it has a walther barrel that has been only very slightly contured, leaving about 5-6mm of metal around the bore at the muzzle. The barrel is 26" long was left like that to help ballance out the two mercury recoil reducers in the stock, which were added to help bring the weight of the rifle upto my goal of 13 lbs. The rifle's balance is perfect, right in front of the lever making a one hand carry possible.

Bob also hand made the sights and the barrel band from scratch, he had some sights on hand but mentioned that they would have looked terrible, and so he proportioned these ones to the monster barrel. awell as making a stronger hevier stock bolt and fitting two mercury recoil reducers I had a limbsaver pad fitted whih increased the LOP slightly due to the factory ruger stock bing about 3/4 of an inch short of perfect.

I load 750 grain bertram bullets into Bertram cases with Reloader 15 powder and dacron as a wad for 2100 fps. I was playing around with 650's but there is not a lot of difference between the two recoil wise, so I have decided to go with the hevier bullets. The recoil of the rifle is really very manageable, its not in the least brutal and is far less punishing than my .416 rigby when loaded to near .416 wby velocities with 400 grain bullets.

Cheers

Steve
