20 x 20 x 9.3 x 72R Sauer/ H Scherping

Hi,

Hoping someone can shed light on when the 20 ga became available. I just purchased a very nice back action Drilling, made by Sauer & embelished & retailed by Heinrich Scherping of Hannover. It was described as a 20 ga 2 3/4 chamber. I first thought no way in this early of gun but the extractor has 70 stamped on it and looks to be period, (assuming 70mm chambers). The gun has not arrived yet but appears to be an early 1890's gun! I have several of his others in 16x16x9.3x72R but was amazed to find this one in 20 and especially with 70mm chambers and am wondering when the 20 first became available in Germany. Some of my other Scherpings can be veiwed by searching the archives by "Scherping" and streching the search out to 3 years.
Let's hear your thoughts!!!!
