For hunting I am likely to do most often, I would prefer to have a Drilling, 12/70 x 12/70 over 7 or 8X57R.
My current most versitile combo is my Drilling 16/70 x16/70 over 9.3x72R. I would prefer to have the above for sake of ammo available without handloads only, and the flat trajectory past 150 meters.

I enjoy my SXS combos of 12.7x44R X 16 and 9.5x56R x 16. More on the later later.

If I had the opportunity to hunt big critters like Asian buff, I would look to the 9.3x74R. I haven't seen the English calibers such as .375 Flanged or .450/.400 in a combination.
