.22 Hornet Rook Rifle?

I saw a rifle last weekend that the owner clams is an original Holland in .22Hornet. Boxlock, non ejector, fully engraved. Nice wood. Rifle looks to be brand new.

He claims it was made in 1900, and is a Royal. Obviously not made in 1900 and not a Royal but a really nice little rifle none the less.

It is my guess it was a different caliber to begin with and I'm am not sure the barrels are original. I didn't know how to take the rifle down to check proofs as there was no lever etc on the forend, nor would it pull off with the pressure I felt safe in applying.

The outside markings all say Holland and Holland and all the right things. The stamps are very sharp and say .22 Hornet with no load information. No serial number visible.

I know that most of the Rook Rimfles I have seen are used and this is too unused looking to be original.

Any ideas? Specifically the caliber?
