Went to an auction Sunday. There I saw a German drilling. The two upper smooth barrels were in 16 ga (possibly short chambers) and the lower rifled barrel was chambered for what was described as 11x62. Any one have any idea as to what this latter cartridge might be? I did not get to see the markings uner the barrel, but would not have been overly surprised if they were either BP or Nitro proofs. The overall appearance suggested an age dating to just about the transition from black to smokeless. It was an underlever hammerless action. I didn't think to look too closely at the barrel metal but I have the impression it was solid steel. |
